Compton Chinatown was the result of agricultural fields extending south of the City of LoAngelesThe expansion came about with the demand for vegetables by the increasing population of Los Angeles. This meant greater employment opportunities for the Chinese. Eventuallythe Chinese controlled more than 90% of produce sales in Los Angeles.
